I was sitting at the computer, obsessing over the file names and number of photos for that were in my 365 project folder, double checking the accounting project my husband had helped me with.
“Baaabe, I think I missed a few days. I’ve only got 363 photos here,” I whined.
To which he calmly replied,”You still have to post a photo for today, and one for tomorrow.”
That’s when it hit me: I did it. I REALLY DID IT! I set out on an ambitious project and I actually finished it. I took one photo per day between 3/27/2013 and 3/26/2014 like I said I would. Holy crap, I did it.
Shortly afterwards, I got teary eyed. There were many nights, after working all day, running what felt like a million errands, cooking dinner, washing dishes, and doing work for Verbicide, where my butt was firmly planted on the couch. I may have had a headache or something to boot, and my 365 project didn’t come to mind at all.
On these nights, my loving husband would say to me, “Did you do your photo of the day?” Eyes wide, I would reply, “Shit. No, I didn’t. Let me do that,” and keep us up an hour or two later. He knew that this project meant a lot to me. In a life where I do so many things that aren’t for myself, this project was for me, an artistic outlet and a way to become a better photographer.
So, here we are, at the end, and I wanted to share some of my favorites with you, and after sharing how amazing my husband has been through this whole thing I’m going to start with “Most Emotional”
Favorite Selfie
This image was shot after the Seahawks won their first preseason game. I had no idea that they would go on to win the Super Bowl that same season!
Weirdest
I was setting up lights to shoot a portrait in front of a magazine-page collage in my apartment. I was trying to trigger the off camera flash with my pop-up flash via infared but it wasn’t working. I noticed that all of my test shots had this creepy face made out of glare in it. It looked exactly the same every time.
Runner up for Weirdest
I don’t think I need to explain why I feel this is one of the weirdest photos I shot this year.
Favorite picture of an animal
I took a lot of cute photos of animals this year: squirrels, cats, raccoons, etc. However, it’s this little pic of a rat trying to sniff me out that I love most.

Favorite Wedding Photo
Really love this shot of Kelsey Landowski wishing on her wedding day.
Most Magical
I just think that Lowa DeBoomboom looks like a goddess here. I try to capture the magic of the world in my photos, and I really think I caught some in this portrait. She’s gorgeous!
Favorite Live Music photo
Love this picture of Beth Ditto that I shot at the Moore Theater in Seattle.
Favorite photo of live burlesque
As many of you know, I shoot a lot of photos at burlesque shows. I absolutely love it. I have many photos I love from shows, but man, Mimi Me just looks so angelic in this shot from House of Thee Unholy. The lighting was wonderful at the show.
Favorite photo shot with Rock Candy Burlesque
I’ve fallen in with a crowd and they’re wild, photogenic, and fun…everything a photographer like me would want. The crowd I speak of is a burlesque troupe based in Olympia called Rock Candy Burlesque!
I know that there’s technically “better photos” in my 365 set of the Rock Candy ladies, but this shot is one that I find utterly hilarious. This photo was the third photo of my 365 project and features Sven Handlesbod in his hot pants and Zsa Zsa Bordeaux in her tutu and tiara saying “Suck it!” Happy, fun memories FTW!!
Thank you, Rock Candy, for hiring me as your photographer. Here’s to many more fun shoots together!
Scariest
I love horror movies and halloween and this was my way of celebrating the arrival of October! Scary scary!
Favorite nature shot
Taken on my birthday camping trip with my cell phone, this is my favorite nature shot of the year (and I took a lot of nature shots this year!) Looking at this is transports me back to that warm summer day, sitting by Ohanapecosh river, dipping my feet in the icy, clear, glacial water.
Favorite pin up photo
Zsa Zsa Bordeaux and I did several shoots for my 365 project, but I love this because I feel like I finally achieved that “pin up” look I’m always going for. It’s not as playful as some pin ups that are out there, but it’s cool, calm and sexy. Zsa Zsa is such a stunner!
Favorite portrait
Really enjoyed this shoot in Port Townsend with Elisa Bassett of Bastet Web Studio. I took a lot of portraits this year but I like this one the most because I think it really captures the fun, cute parts of her personality that you get to see once you really get to know her.
I want to note that Elisa has helped me with my web page and logo. If you like what you see hit her up! She’s great to work with.
Favorite picture of my favorite human
I love this silly guy.
Runner up for Favorite Picture of my Favorite Human
No, seriously. I really, really love this silly guy.
You can view the rest of the photos here.
I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who supported me in my project this year by posing for photos, sharing props, brainstorming, clicking “like” on Facebook, and generally being there for me.
And if you’re wondering if I’m going to do another 365…yes, I’m sure I will eventually, but not right away. I’ll still post photos frequently, though, so keep your eye on Flickr and Facebook to check out my new work. I might blog a little too, so stay tuned. 🙂
